Ever wondered what the plants in your park are? Did you know you are walking through a veritable green pharmacy with every step you take? Does Dandelion tea really make you pee? Is nipplewort just for the ladies? These questions and many more will be answered by your friendly local herbalist, so please join us for a fun and friendly Herb Walk this June.
Our urban adventure (herb walk & tea party) is on the Saturday 28th June at 11am – 1pm, through Mountsfield Park. This park never fails to supply a bounty of wild herbs to discover from the huge Lime blossom trees to the small shrubby St. Johns wort.
Sorrell Robbins, Medical Herbalist will be your guide and explain the fascinating history, traditional medicinal uses and some recipes made up from the herbs you see growing wild in the park and nature reserve you explore together.
This gentle guided walk around the park will take about 1 hour, followed by a picnic style tea party with herbal teas and treats, like lemon balm lemonade and lavender shortbreads. The Picnic in the Park will be weather dependent – if it rains we can all head back to the Chamomile Clinic and cosy up inside the ‘garden shed’ – no spiders allowed – its a really posh shed!
This walk is along a path suitable for prams or wheelchair users – although a bit bumpy and steep in places. Please come prepared for English weather – occasionally wellies and an umbrella are a good idea. Kids welcome but must be accompanied by an adult.
Cost: FREE!! Please also feel free bring any herbal treats you may wish to share, or even seeds you may wish to swap – I will probably have some plants to give away too.
Meeting place: Carswell Road Gate entrance to Mountsfield Park.
Time: 11am-12pm Herb Walk & 12pm-1pm Picnic in the Park (or shed if it rains)
Date: Saturday 28th June 2014
You are welcome to just turn up but if you want us to look out for you on the day, or have any questions please contact us.
